Valentino J. Stella, a distinguished professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at KU and inventor of drugs to treat epilepsy and AIDS, was the first recipient of the KU Technology Transfer Leadership Award, presented Nov. 17 at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics. The inscribed medallion, featuring KU’s Dyche Hall on the front, was presented to Stella for his “dedication to the commercialization and dissemination of technology for the benefit of society.” The award was presented by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David Shulenburger as part of a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the federal Bayh-Dole Act. Schöneich Named AAPS Fellow Christian Schöneich, professor and chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, has been designated a fellow by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Schöneich is internationally recognized as an expert in the area of post-translational protein modification. He joined the KU faculty in 2003 and was named chair of his department earlier this year.
